We build power supplies that are not allowed to fail.
Emmanuel Electronics makes uninterruptible power supplies, frequency converters and high-performance power electronics from a works in Malad West, Mumbai. GRID is what happened when that engineering was pointed at something beautiful.
An online UPS protecting signalling equipment on a railway line has no acceptable failure mode. Neither does a power supply inside a research facility. Building to that standard teaches you things that do not transfer to consumer goods easily — thermal margin, component derating, and what actually fails after ten thousand hours rather than after ten.
Why photo frames
Every year the electronics industry discards laptop displays that still work. The machine around them fails; the panel does not. These are precise, bright, long-lived components thrown away for want of a housing.
A GRID frame is a rescued panel, tested, and built into something worth keeping on a wall. Each one keeps 150 grams of electronic waste out of a landfill and carries a 40.7% smaller carbon footprint than an equivalent mass-produced LED frame.
What that means for what you buy
The frame runs on low-voltage DC and draws under four watts. It is cool to the touch. It is rated beyond thirty thousand hours of continuous operation, and it is designed to be left on. Those are not marketing numbers. They are the numbers we would have had to defend to a procurement officer.
